Material Memory Call Out

Posted: 27th June 2023

Have you got a piece of fabric or a textile object that has been handed down through your family, mended and repaired over the years or travelled with you as you’ve moved from place to place?
If so, we invite you to get involved with Material Memory, a crowd sourced exhibition as part of this year’s British Textile Biennial that celebrates these cherished items and the stories they tell in the crypt of Blackburn Cathedral.

Made precious by the care taken to keep them safe, the value placed on them by those who have prolonged their life and the deep connections they have created, sometimes across centuries and continents, this exhibition demonstrates the deeply human desire to hold the simplest things dear.

If you’d like to get involved you can bring your item to one of our roadshow events taking place across East Lancashire this July (details below) or send an email to zara@britishtextilebiennial.co.uk with a picture and a brief description of the item you’d like to loan and it will be considered for the exhibition.

All items shown will be returned when the exhibition closes at the end of October.

Items/Objects must have some sort of connection to Lancashire.

Road show dates:

Come along, show us your item and share your stories over a cup of tea! We’ll take down the details and take a picture and then get back to you if we can include your item in the exhibition. All items and stories will be credited to their owner.
