Explore the future of sustainable material using The Making Rooms’ new sustainability labs to make your own coin pouch.
First we’ll use the EcoLab to create biomaterials from alginate (derived from seaweed!) and experiment with different bio-dyes using everything from avocado pits to cabbage. Then we’ll make some beautiful marbled buttons using Precious Plastic Blackburn shredders and injection moulder and some home grown disposed, waste plastic!
Next we’ll laser cut our pattern from the textiles with a bit of Blue Peter ‘here’s one we made earlier’ magic (as the material takes about a week to set!). To put it all together, we’ll grab some tools from the FABric Lab and a nice whip stitch – though feel free to go off-piste at this point with your favourite stitch (we won’t tie you down – sorry, had to).
