Daksha & Anna
Art in Manufacturing 2019
Daksha Patel and Anna Ray showed together at Queen Street Mill as part of the Art in Manufacturing 2019 co-commission with the National Festival of Making.
Building upon her recent commission for Art in Manufacturing and her solo show at Prism Contemporary, Blackburn, Daksha Patel presents three new works at Queen Street Mill including two site-specific works inspired by the life of the mill, evoking the movements of people, yarn and machinery through intricate drawings with yarn in space, hand printed cotton and delicate embroideries.
Inspired by the offcuts from the meticulously precise tufting process at Forbo Flooring, Anna Ray’s work is a visual documentation of the ambitious factory floor’s processes, offering a unique view of global manufacturing ‘Offcut’ looked at the materials and processes unseen by the end-consumer; dancing threads wriggling free from their cones in preparation for tufting and uniformly marching needles in seemingly endless rows, punching through cloth at unimaginable speed.
