The Technology Centre

Just outside Nelson’s town centre is an old Methodist church, like many places of worship in industrial towns, it has significant links to the Industrial Revolution.

Established during the 19th century, the church served as a vital community hub for the growing population of textile workers in the area. As the industrial landscape expanded, many workers, including those from nearby mills, turned to Methodism for spiritual support and community solidarity.

In the 2000s, the upper level of the building functioned as an adult education center, which closed more than a decade ago. The building is now owned by 3B-Systems, a technology shop on the ground floor. In partnership with this local business, In-Situ has secured a long-term lease to develop the upstairs space for community use as part of the “This Is Nelson” programme.
