The building that now houses The Making Rooms was originally a cotton mill, but it ceased operations in the late 20th century due to the decline of the cotton industry. The site was subsequently repurposed for other uses before becoming The Making Rooms in the 2010’s.
The Making Rooms is a community facility that unites creativity, technology, and advanced manufacturing, serving artists, inventors, students, children, and anyone interested in designing and creating a wide array of items – from high-tech gadgets to toys, artworks, home decor, and accessibility devices.
At the core of The Making Rooms is a Fab Lab equipped with an impressive selection of modern fabrication tools that blend advanced manufacturing with traditional craft techniques, including 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, CNC machining, pottery, sculpture, and screen printing, among others. This facility supports personal projects and hobbies, commercial prototyping, artwork creation, and the testing of new processes and equipment, while also offering technical and creative training and educational opportunities.
