Gatty Park

Gatty Park covers three hectares and was formerly the grounds of Elmfield Hall owned by the Gatty Family. The Gattys accumulated significant wealth during the Industrial Revolution, with Mr. F. A. Gatty enhanced the dyeing process for Turkey Red and, more notably, Khaki, which replaced Turkey Red uniforms during the Boer War.

Elmfield Hall is an impressive Grade II Listed building located within the park and now serves as the home of Community Solutions, a social enterprise focused on enriching the local community through engagement and support programs. Mr. Gatty’s tea room hosts various events and services, and as an ethical business, all profits from the tea room are reinvested into community initiatives.

The Dye Shed at Elmfield Hall was used for dyeing fabrics, and currently showcases traditional methods and practices, often serving as a space for workshops and demonstrations related to textile arts.
