Accrington Market is a historic grade 2 listed Victorian Market Hall built by John F Doyle and constructed in wrought iron and stone. Established in the 19th century, the market became a vital hub for trade and commerce, particularly in textiles. Many local cotton mills supplied goods that were sold in the market, including fabrics and finished products.
Today Accrington Market still celebrates this legacy, with a mix of stalls that often highlight local crafts and products, echoing its historical roots in the cotton trade. The market continues to be an important hub in Accrington Town centre.
In 2010 Quarterbridge worked closely with English Heritage on a £2m refurbishment to sensitively bring the building up to date whilst retaining its original features. It was awarded an NABMA ‘Best Indoor Market’ 2010, and the North West RTPI prize for ‘Development in Action’
