Christian Jeffery
Comfort Ye One Another
Christian Jeffery creates beautiful, hand-painted football shirts. Taking inspiration from cult players, iconic kits, fan culture, local traditions and historical artefacts, his paintings often incorporate plants, flowers and architecture associated with a certain team or city.
Christian was invited to create a football shirt celebrating Turton Tower’s role in the histories of flax and football. In 1835 the hall came into the ownership of James Kay who developed a wet spinning process for flax which helped industrialise linen spinning in the UK. His grandson, John, went to Harrow School in 1870 and brought the school’s form of football back with him to the local village team, whose rules were the foundation of football as we know it today across the world.
