Patterns of Migration

Sharing Stories Through Clothing & Textiles

Patterns of Migration was a project about sharing stories through clothing and textiles, exploring themes of home and belonging. The focus of the project was on clothing and textile objects from across the world, their journeys, and the lived experiences of their owners.

In collaboration with Gawthorpe Textile Collection, a series of workshops with refugee, migrant, asylum seeker groups and local communities in the Northwest, Patterns of Migration explored the historical, socio-political, and affective values of cloth woven together with personal and collective narratives on movement and migration.

In autumn 2021 we launched the project’s curated online exhibition (October 2021) and was followed by a series of events as part of the Being Human 2021 festival (November)

Patterns of Migration was situated in the Research Centre for Migration, Diaspora and Exile (MIDEX) at the University of Central Lancashire.
