Sally Hirst

Warped

Artist Sally Hirst shares the stories of disabled mill workers William Dodd, Bridget Lyons, and Mary Brown, alongside her own experiences, through weave and sculpture. Their lives reveal resilience, creativity, and the fight for inclusion, from campaigning for shorter hours to rebuilding livelihoods after injury. Today, Sally continues that legacy as a proud disability advocate: “I no longer want to be cured or fixed, but better access for my wheels and sticks!”

She is one of three early career artists from Venture Arts, Manchester who have developed new work in response to BTB25 themes, presented across three different venues.
