John Tiney harvested T-shirts from charity shops, to present a series of works from a “creative production line” of archiving, wearing, staining, screen-printing, stretching and treating which bears the physical marks of his process. Tiney wears the t-shirts while painting which, in most cases, have a pre-existing printed graphic, the expressionistic “gestures” on top of this are the accumulated marks from cleaning his brushes and hands on the shirt. This was then overlaid with a screen print, in response to the combination of readymade and gestural, in an attempt to corral these juxtapositions into the same space.
