The Exchange is a grade II listed building dating back to 1863. It didn’t function as a traditional exchange, instead, it served more as a meeting place facilitating trade for merchants and brokers involved in the cotton industry. In more recent times The Exchange has been used as a performance hall and cinema.
Charity Re:Ignite Church have secured a £9 million redevelopment grant aimed at revitalising the building while preserving its historical significance. The plans include restoring the main floor to create an open-plan space designed for performances, exhibitions, and meetings. This redevelopment aims to make the venue more accessible and functional for community events while ensuring the building’s long-term conservation.
